“Divine teachings have been revealed to prevent the bloodshed of the innocent and to spread peace and friendship among mankind; " said Ayatollah Alavi Boroujerdi.

Hawzah News Agency (Qom, Iran) – In a meeting with a group of German students from Hanover university which was held in the Iranian city of Qom on Sunday, Ayatollah Alavi Boroujerdi, a senior Shia scholar elaborated on the role of religion and Muslim clerics in the Islamic society saying, “religion is considered as a fundamental concern among Iranian people; throughout history of Iran, even prior to the advent of Islam, Iranians had long preserved their deep religious beliefs.”

The Shia cleric further added, “Divine religions have been revealed to mankind in order to promote their moral virtues; Islam must not be regarded as the cause of violence or extremism since it strongly condemns any form of violence.” Hawzah reported.

“Divine teachings have been revealed to prevent the bloodshed of the innocent and to spread peace and friendship among mankind; if someone twists the reality of divine teachings and takes advantage of people’s beliefs in order to serve their own benefit, it’s totally against the spirit of Islam or any other religion. “

“We hope that followers of all religions respect human rights and live side by side in a peaceful coexistence.” Ayatollah Boroujerdi concluded.
